What is the SIX ManuGenius project all about?
SIX ManuGenius helps manufacturing SMEs harness the power of generative AI. The project builds a nationwide support network that guides companies in understanding AI’s opportunities and risks, and in taking their first concrete steps toward smarter and greener production.
Through the project, SMEs receive a generative AI roadmap, pilot projects, and access to a curated service offering from research institutes, making it easier to utilize advanced labs and expertise. SIX ManuGenius is part of the SIXNET network and supports the national Smart Manufacturing Finland 2035 roadmap.

Project Objectives in more detail
The SIX ManuGenius project unites the research expertise of TAMK, TAU, JAMK, Savonia, Oulu University, SeAMK, Into Seinäjoki and Business Tampere to build a comprehensive research and support framework for adopting generative AI in manufacturing SMEs. The project combines fundamental research on how generative AI works and where its limitations lie with applied research that helps companies implement AI solutions in practice.
Operating under the SIX network and the SIXNET initiative, the project aims to
1. Generate research that accelerates generative AI adoption in SMEs
2. Strengthen the visibility and impact of SIX network research within the EDIH ecosystem, helping Finland fully benefit from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment’s SIX EDIH Seal of Excellence.
As part of the Renewing and Competent Finland 2021–2027 programme, the project advances the goal of improving research and innovation capabilities and the uptake of advanced technologies. The expected outputs are concrete and measurable, and strong company involvement and funding underscore the project’s industry-driven nature and the commitment of SMEs to its activities.
